About NK Homeschool Community
North Kitsap Homeschool Community is the legal nonprofit organization behind the public name NK Homeschool Community. The organization is parent run, serves homeschool families in Kitsap County, Washington, and has built local community since 2013.
The corporation’s mission is to complement a home-based education and foster a diverse and supportive homeschool community.
Our mission in practice
NK Homeschool Community complements what families direct at home; it does not replace home-based education. Families bring their interests, knowledge, and care into the community, and that shared effort becomes classes, clubs, workshops, field trips, events, park days, and practical support. The result is a dependable local place to learn and connect without asking families to give up the flexibility that makes homeschooling work.
Children and Eagles take part in parent-led classes while adults teach, assist, supervise shared spaces, and keep the full day running safely.
This community group prioritizes connection, with frequent park days while weather allows and games, clubs, or other activities through the year. A $25 facility fee per family helps cover use of the Monday space.
Field trips, community events, member-led meetups, groups, and shared conversations help relationships continue beyond a single class.
Parents exchange experience, resources, encouragement, and the practical knowledge that makes homeschooling more sustainable.
A secular community that welcomes all faiths or none
Secular describes how NK Homeschool Community teaches and operates; it is not a test of who belongs. We welcome families of all faiths or none, including LGBTQ+ families and families deeply involved in their churches or faith communities. Families do not need to share the same curriculum, politics, or worldview. They do need to treat one another with dignity, respect boundaries, communicate kindly, and help repair harm when mistakes happen.
Why the nonprofit model matters
NK Homeschool Community is organized to serve and strengthen its community rather than distribute profit. Tuesday family fees support the weekly facility and shared systems. Required fundraising participation helps offset program costs and keep the family fee low. Social Mondays is a group rather than a membership; its $25 facility fee per family helps cover Monday use while keeping the group a lower-cost way to form local connections when Tuesday co-op is not the right fit.
Families build NK Homeschool Community together
Tuesday is not a drop-off program. Adults stay on site and share teaching, assisting, setup, cleanup, transitions, community jobs, and fundraising. That participation is not an add-on to the program; it is how the program remains responsive, affordable, and rooted in the strengths of local families.
Public accountability
Families should be able to understand the organization before joining it. NKHC publishes its Handbook, governing Bylaws, privacy practices, terms, program expectations, current-term schedule summary, and current class catalog. The active-term dates and class count on the public site come directly from scheduling records rather than an old marketing page.
Use Programs to compare Tuesday co-op with Social Mondays, read the family guide to choosing a homeschool community, or review the nonprofit identity and official domain. Questions go to admin@nkhc.org.
