NK Homeschool Community

Recurring friendship for local homeschool families

Social Mondays: connection without a Tuesday commitment

Social Mondays gives Kitsap homeschool families regular time to become familiar faces rather than occasional acquaintances. Park days, games, clubs, seasonal activities, field trips, and conversation create the space for both children and adults to form local friendships.

Why recurring social time matters

Homeschool families can find one-time activities almost anywhere. The harder thing to find is continuity: the same children seeing one another often enough to invent games, remember last week’s conversation, work through awkward moments, and grow into friendship. Social Mondays is organized around that continuity rather than around a fixed class syllabus.

Parents benefit from the same rhythm. There is time to exchange local knowledge, compare what is working at home, share resources, and simply talk with adults who understand the shape of a homeschool week.

What a Monday can look like

Park days when weather allows

Outdoor gatherings give children room for active play and let conversations unfold without forcing every age into the same activity.

Games, clubs, and shared interests

Indoor and seasonal gatherings can grow from what participating families want to do together rather than a permanent course catalog.

Multi-age relationships

Children, Eagles, younger siblings, and adults share a community without treating school grade as the only useful social boundary.

Connection beyond Monday

Field trips, community events, member-led meetups, groups, and online conversations give relationships more than one place to grow.

What Social Mondays is—and is not

Social Mondays is an NKHC community group, not a membership. It does not include Tuesday class registration and it does not carry the Tuesday teaching or volunteer commitment. Tuesday co-op membership does include Social Mondays group access, so Tuesday families can participate in both rhythms.

The group has a $25 facility fee per family to help cover use of the Monday space. Activities can change with the season, weather, available spaces, and the interests of participating families. That flexibility is intentional; the steady feature is the chance to meet again.

How Monday serves the nonprofit mission

The corporation’s mission is to complement a home-based education and foster a diverse and supportive homeschool community. Social Mondays focuses directly on the second half of that mission: relationships strong enough for children and adults to feel known, supported, and connected locally. The group also gives families a way to know NKHC before deciding whether a structured Tuesday co-op is right for them.

NKHC is secular in how it operates and welcomes families of all faiths or none, including LGBTQ+ families and families active in faith communities. Respectful participation matters more than matching curriculum, politics, or worldview.
